Ethical Microfinance Loans

I recently came across the website, Deki.org.uk, from which the above video was taken.

It immediately struck me as an ethical way of putting spare cash to use, that is in compliance with the Sharia. The concept of providing a loan, whereby the funds would be used by entrepreneurs in Malawi and Nepal to aid their own trade, reminded me somewhat of, what we as Muslims would term, a Qard al-Hassana (a Goodly Loan).

It’s worth noting that Temwa (Deki’s field agent in Malawi) does not charge interest to the entrepreneur when you give a microfinance loan.

Check it out!
